Welcome, Activity Day Girls!
In my ward at Church, we each get a calling. This is a job that we do, voluntary, without any monetary compensation.
My callings are as follows:
1. Activity Day Leader. Me, along with another lady, lead the 8-11 year old girls in our Church in two Tuesday Activities a month. These activities come from a special booklet called "Faith in God" (see www.lds.org for more information). I have had this calling since May of 2008 and I love, love, love it. I love seeing the girls smiling faces on Tuesdays. I love teaching my cousin. I love taking a break from my own kids on a few Tuesdays a month. I don't like making reminder calls, but that's part of the deal!
2. Piano player in Relief Society. Relief Society is an association for Women in our Church that meets the last hour of Church. It was started by the Prophet Joseph in the 1800's and continues today, with world wide leadership and meetings. I love playing the hymns on the piano. It uplifts and strengthens my soul.
3. Ward Music Chairman. I am in charge of all the music that takes place during Sacrament meeting, the first meeting where we partake of the Sacrament, the bread and water. There also is a Counselor in the Bishopric that is in charge of the music, as well as a chorister and an organist. Mostly they do all of the work, but I love being a part of the music program, attending Ward Choir and most recently I played a piano solo during Sacrament.
4. Visiting Teacher. Most women in the Church hold this calling. We are to go with another Woman companion, who is, in my case, a wonderful girl, and we are to visit anywhere from one to four or five other active or non-active members of the Church once a month, see what they need and deliver a spiritual message from the monthly Ensign that our Church puts out. I love, love, love Visiting Teaching. I don't like the phone calls, again, but that is one of my weaknesses. Visiting Teaching reminds me of the Savior Jesus Christ, as He searched out The One in his teachings. I love going to visit the sisters that I do and almost every time, I come away strengthened and having learned and gained more than the sister that I have served.
I am excited to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love to do whatever the Lord asks me to do, through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost and through a dedicated Bishop and his counselors.
